Willie Junior ''Bill'' Brantley

Willie Junior ''Bill'' Brantley, 76, of Roanoke Rapids died Friday, March 19, 2010.

Bill was the son of the late Willie Jackson and Rosella Acree Brantley. A native of Halifax county, Bill was a veteran, proudly serving his country in the United States Army. He was a longtime faithful member of Stanley White Presbyterian Church, serving as an Elder, treasurer, Sunday school teacher, and chairman of Building & Grounds. He retired from Champion International with 35 years of service. Bill was also owner of B & H Builders for 12 years. He was a wonderful, loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and brother.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Josephine Twiford and Mildred ''Doodie'' Stephenson; brother, Albert ''Sam'' Brantley, and two special brothers-in-law Milton ''Monk'' Stephenson and Carlton Fanney.

Bill is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Kathryn Brantley; two daughters, Tammy Spragins and her husband, Wally, of Roanoke Rapids and Sheri Rightmyer and her husband, Ray, of Littleton; his son, Stan Brantley of Roanoke Rapids; six grandchildren, Nycole Brantley, Nick Brantley, Kristofer Spragins and his wife, Brittany, Kevin Spragins and his fiancée, Alice Sweeley, Rachel Rightmyer and Sarah Kathryn Rightmyer; one great-grandchild, Kayla Casper; his sister, Delsie B. Fanney; his brother, Carlton Brantley and his wife, Sylvia; his mother-in-law, Louise Hatchell, all of Roanoke Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.

Askew Funeral & Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids is handling the arrangements, where the family will receive friends on Sunday, March 21, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 22, at 11:00 a.m. at Stanley White Presbyterian Church in Roanoke Rapids with Rev. David Smith officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Stanley White Presbyterian Church, 601 Ashton St., Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870.

The flag in front of the funeral home flies at half-staff in honor of Mr. Brantley’s service to his country.
